GEJ’s Ministers Send Warning Letter To Buhari

Some ministers that worked with the immediate past government of Goodluck Jonathan have warned President Muhammadu Buhari to give the former president his “due respect” henceforth. The former ministers said they've observed that the Buhari administration and members of the APC had been condemning, ridiculing and undermining the efforts of the Jonathan administration. Jonathan’s ministers said both the President and his party had also been rubbishing the integrity of some of the individuals who worked with Jonathan in his administration. A former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, said this on Sunday in a statement on behalf of other ministers who worked with Jonathan. Suleiman said the efforts of the Buhari government had been to portray all members of the Jonathan administration “as corrupt and irresponsible, in an orchestrated and vicious trial by the media,” which he said had created “a lynch mentality that discredits our honest contributions to the growth and development of our beloved nation.” He said while he and his colleagues believed that each administration had the right to chart its own path, the alleged vilification of the Jonathan administration was ill-intentioned. But the Presidency, while reacting to the Jonathan’s minsters’ statement, on Sunday said Buhari’s war against corruption was not negotiable. “President Buhari will not be deterred or blackmailed into retreat and surrender.”

Contrary to counter claims in some quarters that the US government was in possession of documents indicting top aides of Goodluck Jonathan, indications have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari has, in fact, been handed shocking documents relating to monumental stealing of ministers and others. It was learnt that the intervention of some individuals, including some African leaders, tended to suggest to Buhari that he needed to give his predecessor soft landing; and indeed, the President had agreed but on the condition that the aides and ministers who looted the treasury must return the funds. It was with a view to avoiding what a very credible source described as a public embarrassment for the former leader, that Jonathan visited Buhari earlier in the month to beg for his understanding. “The President advised Jonathan to prevail on his aides and ministers to return all the money they looted to enable him have access to funds with which to restructure and develop Nigeria for the good of everybody. But President Buhari became angry when Jonathan’s men became adamant." “Most of Jonathan’s men would have been arrested by now, but the President was being mindful of the nation’s democracy and, therefore, decided to pursue the matter in a civil manner. In fact, it was for this reason that the National Economic Council, NEC, decided to set up a special committee to ascertain the areas concerned and deal with it,” a presidency source told Vanguard. It was due to the documents exposing stealings that Buhari recently urge lawyers not to cover corrupt men.

Buhari, APC Leaders Move to Pacify Igbos

There is an indications that President Muhammadu Buhari and leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had begun moves to compensate the South-East for not getting any appointments so far in his government. According to Punch, some states in the geopolitical zone might get more than one ministerial slot. Presidency and APC sources, who spoke to Punch on condition of anonymity, also justified the appointments made by Buhari on Thursday. “The President has assured us that all zones that have not been represented in the appointments he has made so far will be compensated. “For example, some states in the South-East may get more than one ministerial slots. The President is going to make board and ambassadorial appointments. All zones, including the South-East, will be represented in this government,” said a top member of the ruling party. Prominent Nigerians and socio-political groups, have criticised the appointments made by Buhari so far. Out of 31 appointments made so far, 24 of the appointees are from the North and seven are from the South. The South-East has no representation in the Buhari-led government. “You don’t give appointments such as chief of staff and the SGF to your rival or his loyalists; you give them to those you can vouch for. Those posts are ears and eyes of the President and they are not subjected to the party’s ratification,” a Presidency source added.

More Reactions Hits President Buhari’s Appointments

The reactions over appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari continued with more tribal bigots and misguided politicians accusing the President of being ethnically biased in his choices. Even though many enlightened Nigerians say they did not see anything wrong since those he appointed are from Nigeria and well competent to deliver, some are insisting the appointments are wrong. The PDP, in its reaction, said the appointments should not be greeted with enthusiasm, saying that it is more concerned about the delivering of good governance. In a text message to Vanguard, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olise Metuh, said: “The PDP has no official response to the president’s style and choice of appointees. We are more concerned with the inactivity in governance and economic matters. On account of lack of ideas, this government is orchestrating drama in delayed appointments and selective witch-hunt on anti-corruption.” A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, stated that Nigerians are already witnessing what he called the consequences of his pre- election warning of not voting for the APC. He said: ‘"Nigerians wanted change and now we have got it. No one should complain because this is what our people wanted. Those of us who warned the country that this would happen were insulted and lampooned. Now we have to live with the consequences of our choice for the next four years. Welcome to the new Nigeria. Welcome to change.” Also reacting, former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope said: “Democracy to Buhari is government of the Northerners by the Northerners and for the Northerners. God bless Nigeria." But the immediate past Senate Majority Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba, who hailed the appointments, said this is not the first time someone outside the Customs was chosen to head the agency. Ndoma – Egba said: “They are competent with proven integrity. It will not be the first time someone will be appointed from outside to head Customs. Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, current acting Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT was appointed to head Customs from outside."

Nigerians Will Stone Jonathan If We Expose The Secrets Of His Loots-Oshiomhole

The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who chaired a special committee set up by the National Economic Council, NEC, in this interview with Vanguard revealed that Goodluck Jonathan administration plundered the nation’s economy despite the defence being put forward by the former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. As a matter of fact, the Governor who is a member of the NEC made further disclosures, revealing that under the watch of Okonjo-Iweala, the Federal Government spent the sum of N140billion on consultancy for the Second Niger bridge. He said the money was sourced from the Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF, illegally, asserting that the Igbos must hold the former President responsible since such amount was expended with no bridge on ground. He insists that the nation cannot succeed unless people are prosecuted, stressing that "If Nigerians know what these people did, they will stone them to death, jungle justice. 700 million dollars gone on second Niger bridge without any bridge to show." Oshiomhole, visibly angry, said he may not be able to reveal as much as he would have liked but maintained that if Nigerians knew what actually went down during Jonathan’s reign, they would stone him and his cabinet members on the street. 

 Sir, National Assembly approved the 75million dollar loan to Edo State, but the PDP opposed the loan deal saying the state is already heavily indebted, how would you react to that? 

Firstly, the PDP does not believe in development and for them anything that will bring prosperity to the people negates what they stand for. Which is politics for the benefit of PDP leaders. And of course they are embarrassed by the amount of goodwill that we have continued to enjoy from the people of the state; it is not easy to be in government for six and half years and you can still walk the streets – on and off. You find people trooping out to hail you and, see, they have been praying, with the declining oil prices such that many states can’t pay salaries.

Sen. Saraki’s Associates Beg President Buhari

Loyalists of Senator Bukola Saraki are beginning to retreat in the lingering cold war with the All Progressives Congress (APC) hierarchy over the leadership crisis in the Red Chambers. They have already reached out to President Muhammadu Buhari for the purpose of reconciling with him and, by extension, the party leadership. However, the Saraki loyalists were said to have left the first meeting with Buhari “uncomfortable” on account of his body language. Saraki and his loyalists had defied the party by rejecting its candidates for principal positions in the Senate. They shunned the June 9 meeting convened by the APC to resolve the matter and teamed up with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to elect their own candidates including Saraki as Senate President and PDP’s Ike Ekweremadu as his deputy. It was gathered that House of Reps Speaker Yakubu Dogara’s compliance with the APC’s directive on the choice of principal officers in the House was largely responsible for the change of heart by Saraki and his supporters having being put under pressure as a arrogant fellow by Dogara’s move. It was gathered that the Saraki’s loyalists and strategists meeting took place at the Presidential Villa a few days ago. It was shielded from reporters for what a source described as “avoiding media backlash on the fresh peace process.” The “peace team”, according to sources, was led by Senate Leader Ali Ndume. Those present were Senators Adamu Aliero, Danjuma Goje, Kabiru Gaya and Abdullahi Adamu. Two of the Senators admitted last night that they were at the meeting. According to SR, the Senators were disturbed that all is not well between the Senate and the Presidency. So far, President Buhari is said to have refused to meet and discuss policy issues with Saraki, causing more anxiety for loyalists of the Senate President.

Ashawo Girls In Naija Goes On Strike

I read with amazement the story on how no fewer than 2,000 commercial s*x workers in Awka, the Anambra State capital, have reached an agreement to commence their strike action against the state government. An indications which means that prostitution is legalized in that state. Their leader was even reported to pointing accusing finger at the government officials as their best customers who throw money at them. The leader of the prostitutes screamed, “They want me to expose them?” Awka with only about 301,000 population in 2006 has over 2,000 prostiutes in one group. India Police arrest Parrot for insulting owner's elderly stepmother

 According to reports from Zee News India, a parrot in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, was detained by police on Tuesday after an old woman filed a complaint against it for making obscene remarks at her. Janabai, who is in her 80s, filed the complaint with the police in Rajura city of Chandrapur District, saying the parrot had been tutored by its owner to shower abuses at her whenever she passed by his house. The parrot, named Hariyal, is owned by Janabai's stepson Suresh. A complaint was also registered against him. Both live separately due to a property dispute. "I am being harassed for the last two years. On seeing me, the parrot uses bad language and foul words. That is why I have complained thrice in the last two years. Police called me, Suresh and the parrot to the police station. Police should investigate and seize the parrot,” said Janabai. The police had called the agitated woman, her son and the parrot to the police station to verify the complaint. However, the police said the parrot did not utter a word when his cage was brought near Janabai at the police station so no 'charges' were pressed against it. Man digs up Dad's grave just to argue With corpse?

Michael May, 44,  attempt to bury old wounds by digging up a corpse. May,  a Kentucky man has been put behind bars. He was arrested Tuesday evening after an officer saw him digging up a grave at a cemetery in Sanford, Kentucky. May told the arresting officer he was trying to dig up the grave of his father so he could argue with him. The arresting officer also said May seemed intoxicated and quoted Bible verses when confronted, according to Central Kentucky News. May was charged with violating graves, public intoxication and marijuana possession and locked in the Lincoln County Jail. In a bizarre jailhouse interview May told reporter Josh Breslow that a bible verse inspired him to dig up his dad. Breslow: "Do you feel that you were violating a grave?" May: "No, no. I see the truth.. he needs to be on the ground. Not under it." May says his dad died 30 years ago. The Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a full investigation into how a wanted terrorist, Ahmed Al Assir, was granted a Nigerian Visa in Lebanon to visit the country. An official of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja told Vanguard on Tuesday that President Buhari has directed the Ministry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the issuance of Visa to the wanted terrorist‎ who has been on the wanted list of several governments. A Nigerian Pastor seeks divorce over wife's excessive nagging

 A pastor and founder of Christ Living Church, Owo, Ondo State, Tunde Adekunle, had yesterday Monday August 17th urged an Akure Customary Court to dissolve his 15 year-old marriage to his wife, Agbeke because she nags a lot. The pastor who said that his wife is bent on nagging him to death revealed to the court that some of the scars on his body were caused by the constant fights between them. According to a report by PM News, the pastor said there was no more affection existing in the marriage. He described his wife as a “disgrace to his pastoral calling” and also revealed that she once tore his cloth in front of his congregation while he was delivering a sermon. Mrs Agbeke denied the allegations leveled against her but said she is willing to end the union which had produced four children. However, she accused her husband of infidelity and lack of responsibility. In her ruling, Mrs. Olayinka Falodun, the President of the court urged the petitioner and respondent to take care of the welfare of the children and ensure their bright future. She, therefore, ordered the parties to come to court with two witnesses each at the next adjourned date. The case has been adjourned till August 3.

Jonathan appointees looted at least N11.11trillion, they must face the law says APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress has accused the past administration led by Goodluck Jonathan of looting at least N11.11 trillion (or $55.68 billion at N199.5 to a dollar) of public funds while in office. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Lai Mohammed, said in a statement, the rate at which public funds were stolen during the last regime was too “massive”, “spine-chilling” and “mind-boggling” to ignore. The party listed the funds unaccounted for by the regime to include:

– 3.8 trillion Naira out of the 8.1 trillion Naira earned from crude oil (2012-2015) withheld by NNPC – 2.1 billion US dollars from Excess Crude Account unaccounted for – Department of Petroleum Resources’ unremitted 109.7 billion Naira royalty from oil firms – 6 billion US dollars allegedly looted by some Ministers of the last Administration – 160 billion barrels of crude worth 13.9 billion US dollars lost between 2009 and 2012 – 15 million US dollars from botched arms deal yet to be returned to Nigeria ​- 13 billion US dollars​ in NLNG dividends mostly unaccounted for ​- 30 billion Naira rice waiver​ ​- 183 billion naira​ unaccounted for at the Niger Delta Development Commission.

There is an indications that the United States’ government is finally sending arms to the Nigerian military in its efforts to crush Boko Haram in line with the new order given them by the Presidency. Facts that the US is sending arms came on the heels of the US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle’s revelation in an interview with Punch that the US government has no arms embargo. He said, “There’s been a lot of misunderstanding on this issue before, during and after President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Washington. Let me be clear about a couple of things: One, we had worked very closely with Nigeria on the Leahy Amendment….The second piece of misinformation, which has been bandied about in (newspapers’) headlines, is that the US has lifted its arms embargo on Nigeria. There was never an arms embargo.” According to Radio France Internationale, the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency records show that the country’s Department of Defence is set to transfer military material to Nigeria. The RFI noted that a DSCA list of “so-called Excess Defence Articles” slated for Nigeria indicated that the US Army was about to transfer Caiman trucks, armoured vehicles designed “to defeat current and emerging threats,” according to their manufacturer, British-based BAE Systems. The RFI added that the US government was also sending armoured vehicles known as MaxxPro MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected), made by Navistar Defence, an Illinois company, and Israeli-based Plasan Sasa.

73 expels for forgery in YABATECH

The Academic Board of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, has expelled 73 students for presenting suspected forged results. A statement by the college made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday said the affected students were part-time pursuing National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes. Signed by the Deputy Registrar, Mrs Titilayo Obadimu, the statement said the affected students registered for the 2013/2014 academic session. According to the statement, the results were discovered during the verification of Senior Secondary School certificates and National Diploma results. It said 46 students for National Diploma and 27 for Higher National Diploma were affected. “All affected students are advised to hand over the property of the college in their possession, including Identity Cards, to their heads of department, the librarian and Dean of Students’ Affairs,’’ it said. Mr Charles Oni, who heads the Public Relations Unit told NAN the college had zero tolerance for malpractices and social vices. He said all documents presented for admission were subjected to rigorous screening. Oni urged prospective students to avoid forgery of results and other means of malpractices.

During his trial ­Pistorius, 28, was seen clasping rosary beads and intensively reading the book Breakthrough Prayer: The Power of Connecting with the Heart of God, by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church’s pastor Jim Cymbal. He is since said to have been studying the Bible. His release terms mean he will remain a prisoner in his home ahead of an appeal to have his manslaughter conviction overturned. A mystery donor is said to have offered to help fund the bid, which could lead to a retrial. A source on the Pistorius legal team said he has been told his release date will either be August 21, 22 or 23. According to the source, “The appeal court can’t send him back to prison, they can only order a retrial. Is it impossible? No. Is it likely, also no.” His team say the appeal is based only on a legal issue and nothing to do with the State’s initial version that he wanted to kill Reeva and that he has an uncontrollable temper.

In his quest for a simpler life, one man has transformed himself into a goat. Thomas Thwaites, a 34-year-old researcher from London, has spent the past year creating prosthetics that allow him to roam around on all fours. He’s studied goat behaviour, learned their way of communicating and even attempted to create an artificial goat stomach to allow him to eat grass. His efforts, funded by the government, culminated in a three day trip to the Swiss Alps, where he lived as a goat, roaming the hills with a herd. But why would anyone go to such lengths to be a goat? ‘I suppose it was because it could be fairly difficult, depressive and just stressful being a human being,’ he said. Thwaites, who is interested in transhumanism, believes not everyone will want to become a cyborg in the future. Biorobotics, he said, could be used by people to de-volve instead of evolve. ‘I initially wanted to be an elephant, but it wasn’t going very well,’ said Thwaites. ‘I visited a shaman, and she said “you’re an idiot”.
