Stop Castigating Lesbigay--Catholic Bishops tell Nigerians

The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria, CBCN has appealed to Nigerians, especially Nigerian media to stop castigating homosexuals and Lesbians in Nigeria. The bishops made this known in an article titled “Still on Same-Sex Union and the Stand of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria”, which was shared by the group’s director of social communication, Chris Anyanwu.

According to the article, the bishops welcomed the Nigerian government's anti-gay law but they do not seek the punishment or jailing of persons who err but to help them unto salvation.

The article reads:

“There is certainly an obsession by some journalists about ‘severe punishment of gays or lesbians’ and they try to twist the Bishops’ statements to articulate their views. Nigerian Catholic bishops are very responsible pastors who do not seek the punishment or jailing of persons who err, but to help them unto salvation. In wrongly reading the letter of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in January 2015 to President Goodluck Jonathan, some international organizations mischievously reduced the CBCN position to advocating severe punishment of gays or lesbians with long prison terms. What the CBCN supported, blessed and commended in their letter of 21st January, 2015 to former President Goodluck Jonathan was because the Nigerian government upheld the dignity and sanctity of marriage even in the face of all sorts of pressure. When, therefore, the federal government resisted the attempt to impose this culture on Nigerians by legislating against ‘same-sex union’, the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria felt a sense of great relief and issued a statement to affirm government’s decision. The Archbishop Kaigama we know is a careful and pastorally-minded prelate who would not have used such words as: ‘shameful’, ‘barbaric’, ‘madness’, etc. to refer to anyone. Our stand was and is ‘no to same sex union’ and ‘no to spreading of the homosexual culture’ which can only complicate our struggle to uphold traditional/ religious/moral values in our country,” he stated.

A woman, Mrs Adenike Dossou, has accused her husband of “manipulation” on
their children while giving them a bath. Mrs Dossou, a civil servant, who is seeking the dissolution of her 12-year-old marriage to Segun Dossou, an Immigration Officer, at a Lagos Island Customary Court, said her husband always volunteered to bath their children while she handled the cooking.

“I was shocked when our first daughter told me that she is growing and didn’t like what her dad did to her,” she said. Mrs Dossou said on three occasions, she didn’t find her husband beside her at night, adding whenever she searched for him, she saw him sleeping beside their children. She said: “I scolded him and asked if he wanted to ruin our children’s life but he didn’t respond. I am in support of the dissolution because I know he wants our children in his custody to continue his misdeeds.”

Mrs Dossou added that the only thing her husband is interested in is charm adding that there were times he wouldn’t go to work but he gets paid. “I went with him to Cotonou to seal our union in their registry. I was just signing documents; I don’t know what was written in the papers. I don’t love him anymore and I don’t want  my girls to live with him,” she said.

Mr Dossou, 39, said their marriage troubles started when his wife got a job.

“She is a thief, she steals government’s property. She brought cement and coal to their home. It was her attitude that made us fight and she left me. I just want our daughters. I don’t love or need her anymore,” he said. The marriage produced three children between ages 8, 10 and 12.

The president, Chief Awos Awosola, advised them to be very careful with their utterances and adjourned the case till October 7 for verdict.

Better Resign--NLC, TUC, Others Advises Senator Bukola Saraki

Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, have urge the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, to resign from his position as the senate president pending the outcome of his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. They said that even though Saraki is still on trial and has not been found guilty of the allegations against him, it is morally right for him to resign his job.

President of the TUC, Mr. Bobboi Bala, while addressing Sunday Punch on Saturday, said Saraki has a moral burden to resign.

He said, “Resignation is a moral burden on people. But if somebody feels that he will carry his cross, go to the courts and try to exonerate himself, he should be given the opportunity. But it would be too bad if at the end of the day, he is found guilty. It does not speak well of public office holders.

“In other countries, as soon as such things happen, people tender their letters of resignation. Obviously, it is a moral burden on him. We hope all politicians will begin to know that no matter how highly placed they are, one day, they will definitely have to account for their stewardship.”

Several chapters of the NLC and the TUC across the states also asked for Saraki’s resignation on Saturday.

He said: “As it were, the Senate President is sitting on a delicate seat. If it were a civilised society, he would have stepped aside to allow for a fair trial, so that he won’t allow his official position to influence the decision of the tribunal.”

Hidekichi Miyazaki, a Japanese centenarian  also popularly know as 'Golden Bolt' set a fresh record as the world's oldest competitive sprinter on Wednesday, just a day after he turns 105. Miyazaki completed his heat with a time of 42.22. His personal record of 34.10, achieved when he was 103-years-old, remains in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Mimicking the signature pose of the fastest man in the world, Jamaican Usain Bolt, Miyazaki declares that he would love the chance to race against the Olympic gold medallist.

"I will say this: I'm proud of my health. My brain might not be the sharpest but physically I'm tip-top. I've never had any health problems. The doctors are amazed by me. I can definitely keep on running for another two or three years."

According to reports by Reuters, Miyazaki didn't take up running until his 90s, when many of the friends he used to play board games with passed away and he was looking for an activity he could do on his own.

The world experienced a collective meltdown earlier today when Facebook crashed for just 12 minutes. The social media site went down at 12.31pm ET (5.31pm BST), but is now up and running for most users. During the difficult few minutes, millions of people all over the world were unable to log on - and many took to Twitter to express their distress.  Facebook's error page had an automated message which said the site was 'working on it' and would 'get it fixed as soon as we can'. 

The hashtag #facebookdown immediately started trending on Twitter, which remained operational. Peter Biellow tweeted: 'Stay strong, everyone. Look outside. See the birds and sky.' 'Oh my DAYZZz #Facebook #facebookdown...is this the end of the world? Or did someone trip over the plug?' wrote DJ James Jay. Facebook's 'Platform Status' page, which is used to communicate when the site is broken, appeared to also be having technical problems. Downdetector.com's Facebook map showed outages in North America, Europe, Australia and India

 The last time Facebook went down was in January when hackers from online group Lizard Squad claimed they shut down the site. Facebook, which also owns Instagram, denied they were hacked at the time and blamed the outage on 'a change that affected our configuration systems'. Gay license? I would rather be jail again-Kim Davies

You would recall the story of Kentucky county clerk that was sued and jailed for five days for refusal to issue gay licences to intending couples, she has continue to stay firm on her religious belief rather than than being misled by frivolities. She also defy her critics today saying she shouldn't have to quit her job over the row. Davis, who became to Apostolic Christian four years ago, said in an interview that losing her job would mean 'losing my voice', and that she shouldn't have to quit a job she loves to suit others. The Rowan County clerk also said that she has 'weighed the cost' of going back to jail for her beliefs and was willing to sit in a cell for 'as long as it takes' for an exception to be made.

 Her story captured headlines earlier this month after she was recorded saying 'God's authority' prevented her from giving a marriage licence to gay couple David Moore and David Ermold. Davis was eventually jailed after refusing to comply with a court order compelling her to issue the licences, but was freed after five days when she agreed to a compromise. Under the terms of her release, she was allowed to remove her name from licences issued to gay couples, but could not interfere with deputy Richard Mason granting the papers, after he agreed to step in 'to ease the tension'. Speaking on Fox News, Kelly added that she shouldn't have to quit her job over the issue, saying that 'resigning would mean losing my voice'  

However, Davis could now find herself back in court after Mason alleges that she changed the paperwork to remove the name of the county, his job title, and the space for his signature. Mason says he is now singing the forms as a 'notary public', and only has space to put his initials, which he fears will make the licences invalid. 

 Davis is a mother herself, having given birth to twins, a boy and a girl, outside of wedlock. When asked if either of her own children turned out to be gay or lesbian, would Davis apply the same rules to them. She said: 

'I would love my son or daughter if they were a lesbian or gay because I love all people, but I would not grant them a marriage licence. 'I have love in my heart for everyone. I pray for those people who are suing me. I heard they got death threats and that is terrible.' Davis's actions came after a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that said gay and lesbian couples did have the right to marry, effectively legalizing gay marriage across America. The ruling has caused a backlash from swathes of the Christian population, who argue that marriage is specified in the Bible as being between a man and a woman.

Armed Robbers Invades Abuja Catholic Church

The newly upgraded Catholic Church of Annunciation, Kubwa, as a Parish by the Archdiocese of Abuja was stormed by suspected armed robbers in less than 3 months of its upgrade and carted away valuable equipment including a Toyota Camry. The robbers forced their way into compounds and carted away whatever they could lay their hands on. According to the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Matthew Kwaggas, the robbers stormed the parish after Sunday’s service and stole everything they received for thanksgiving, including bags of rice, money and drinks. He also told the congregation during Mass that about two weeks after the first raid of the church, the robbers again broke in through one of the windows and removed all the public address system, a vehicle-Toyota Camry and musical instruments.

Terrifying! a BUG is pulled from a woman's ear canal after it crawled inside while she was asleep

That hideous moment a bug is dragged from a woman's ear. The creature had crawled into the unwitting Chinese woman's ear as she was sleeping. Upon waking, and feeling something definitely wasn't right, she rushed to the emergency room of Yangzhou hospital in the eastern province of Jiangsu, China. There, doctors discovered the bug in her ear and were able to kill it using a saline solution. They then used an electric otoscope - a medical device used to look into the ears - to find it, and pull it out. The otoscope had a camera attached and so a video of the whole process also became available. The footage shows doctors trying to clamp the centipede's body with tweezers, but finding it difficult not to rip part of the creature's body off and leave the rest inside. They then drag the lifeless invertebrate's body  out of the woman's ear. According to experts, small centipedes produce a painful reaction similar to a bee sting while larger ones have more venom and bites from them can be extremely painful. The woman who is said to had suffered minor injuries to her ear is now recovering well.

Another wildlife conservation tragedy:43year old Zookeeper killed by a tiger

Samantha Kudeweh, 43 and a mother of two was reportedly attacked and killed on Sunday, September 20th  by one of Hamilton Zoo's Sumatran tigers in New Zealand. News from local reports states that the tiger attacked her while the animal's enclosure was being cleaned. The Zoo is said to be closed until Thursday Sept. 24th. A staff confirmed that the tiger will not be put down following the tragedy. Hamilton City Council’s General Manager Community, Lance Vervoort says although Samantha’s death is a tragedy for the wider zoo family and international wildlife conservation community, senior zoo staff have ruled out euthanizing Oz. Mr Vervoort says some of the zoo’s five Sumatran tigers will be on display. No decision has been made on whether visitors to the zoo will be able to see Oz. Mr Vervoort says the zoo’s popular Tiger Talks, Eye 2 Eye and Face 2 Face encounters for all species have been suspended until further notice to allow zoo staff time and space to grieve for their friend and colleague. Tragedy in Osun as Petrol Tanker falls and crushes a commercial bus in Osogbo

Buhari and Osinbajo disclose assets

A statement issued by the senior Special Adviser on Media and publicity to the President on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu said “the documents submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), show that the retired General has indeed been living an austere and Spartan lifestyle, contrary to what many might expect of a former Head of State of Nigeria and one who has held a number of top government positions, such as governor, Minister of petroleum and the head of the Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF).

“The documents submitted to the CCB, which officials say are still being vetted and will soon be made public, show that prior to being sworn in on May 29, President Buhari had less than N30 million to his name. He also had only one bank account, with the Union Bank. President Buhari had no foreign account, no factory and no enterprises. He also had no registered company and no oil wells. 

“The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) who had been a successful lawyer before his foray into politics declared a bank balance of about N94 million and 900,000 United States Dollars in his bank accounts.

“President Buhari declared however that he had shares in Berger Paints, Union Bank and Skye Bank. 

“This is entirely unlike what one might expect from a former head of state of a country like Nigeria.

“The documents also revealed that President Buhari had a total of five homes, and two mud houses in Daura. He had two homes in Kaduna, one each in Kano, Daura and in Abuja. One of the mud houses in Daura was inherited from his late older sister, another from his late father. He borrowed money from the old Barclays Bank to build two of his homes.

“President Buhari also has two undeveloped plots of land, one in Kano and the other in Port Harcourt. He is still trying to trace the location of the Port Harcourt land. 

“In addition to the homes in Daura, he has farms, an orchard and a ranch. The total number of his holdings in the farm include 270 heads of cattle, 25 sheep, five horses, a variety of birds and a number of economic trees. 

“The documents also showed that the retired General uses a number of cars, two of which he bought from his savings and the others supplied to him by the federal government in his capacity as former Head of State. The rest were donated to him by well-wishers after his jeep was damaged in a Boko Haram bomb attack on his convoy in July 2014.

“As revealed by the same forms, highlights of the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s asset declaration include his 4-bedroom residence at Victoria Garden City, Lagos and a 3-bedroom flat at 2 Mosley Road, Ikoyi. The Vice President also has a 2-bedroom flat at the popular Redemption Camp along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and a 2-bedroom mortgaged property in Bedford, England. Aside from these, the Vice President has no other landed properties on the form.

“Apart from his law firm, known as SimmonsCooper, the Vice-President also declared shareholding in six private companies based in Lagos, including Octogenerium Ltd., Windsor Grant Ltd., Tarapolsa, Vistorion Ltd., Aviva Ltd. and MTN Nigeria.

“According to details shown on the form, the Vice-President has about ninety four million naira, nine hundred thousand US dollars and nineteen thousand pounds in Nigerian Banks with the foreign currencies kept in local domiciliary accounts. His personal vehicles are one Infinity 4-Wheel Drive SUV, one Mercedes Benz and a Prado Jeep.

“As soon as the CCB is through with the process, the documents will be released to the Nigerian public and people can see for themselves.”

Supreme Court rules against Kentucky clerk over refusal to issue gay marriage licenses

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled against the Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis will have to choose whether to issue marriage licenses and defy the Christian conviction she has held up as her defense, or continue to refuse them. Davis, who stopped issuing all marriage licenses a day after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage, could face fines or jail time if she defies the decision. 'She's going to have to think and pray about her decision overnight,' said Mat Staver, founder of the law firm representing Davis, said on Monday. 'She certainly understands the consequences either way. She'll report to work tomorrow, and face whatever she has to face.' A line of couples, turned away by her office again and again in the two months since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized gay marriage across the nation, plan to meet her at the courthouse door. 'Wow, wow, wow, I can't believe it, we might finally be able to get a license tomorrow,' April Miller said Monday night, shortly after the court's decision. Miller has been denied twice to marry her partner of more than a decade. Two gay couples and two straight couples then sued her, arguing that she must fulfill her duties as an elected official despite her personal religious faith. A federal judge ordered her to issue the licenses, and an appeals court upheld that decision. Her lawyers with the Liberty Counsel filed a last-ditch appeal to the Supreme Court on Friday, asking that they grant her 'asylum for her conscience.' Justice Elena Kagan, who oversees the 6th district, referred Davis' request to the full court, which denied the stay without comment. Kagan joined the majority in June when the court legalized gay marriage across the nation. Gov. Oshiomole defends Buhari's appointments

Following the public outcry over president Buhari's appointments made recently, the governor of Edo state Adams Oshiomole, has released a statement defending the appointments of President Buhari. In the statement signed by his chief Press secretary, Peter Okhiria, Oshiomole said the appointments made so far have been based on merits. According to him, the time has come for Nigeria to use unusual methods to solve her unusual problems. 

The statement in part reads;

"The Nigerian nation has come to a point where we have to use the best hands to confront 

the peculiarity of our problems. It is not all the time we descend to the level of geopolitical 

balancing; we need to employ unusual methods to solve an unusual problem. The level of 

decay in the country at present requires very seasoned hands and incorruptible Nigerians 

that will help translate the APC agenda of change for the benefit of all Nigerians. We must

 not reduce governance to political patronage of bread and butter. The governor congratulates 

the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Comptroller 

General of Customs, all of who he had very close relationship with and whose 

credentials stand tall among their compeers. He wishes them well in their new jobs of 

helping to sanitize a system that has become so rotten and corrupt as a result of manifest incompetence and mismanagement.”
